Use the Cision Social Listening Quick Search

The Quick Search feature is the homepage of Cision Social Listening powered by Brandwatch. You can input a keyword into the search engine to get insights on the topic you’re most interested in.  

The Guided Quick Search feature allows you to search for a keywords using easy prompts rather than rely on Boolean syntax, which can provide better suggestions and error recognition as you build your search

If you prefer to compose your search using Boolean syntax, you are also able to use the Advanced Search feature on the Quick Search home page. 

Recent and Recently Saved Searches are also available on the Quick Search homepage

Note: When using a Quick Search without saving, there will be 30 days of historical data available.


Click on the links to the right to move to the section for: Quick SearchGuided Quick Search and Advanced Search!


To Use the Quick Search Feature:

1. Click on the Social Listening tab.

2. In the search bar of the Quick Search homepage, type in the name of a brand, hashtag, handle or topic, then press the Enter key on your keyboard.


NOTE: If your quick search exceeds 600 characters, you will need to save your search, then Edit it to add up to 100,000 characters.

3. After pressing the Enter key on your keyboard, you will be led to the Quick Search tab in the Analyze page. (To learn more about how to analyze your Quick Search results, click here.)

4. On the Analyze Dashboards page, a search bar showing the current search is available for easy access at the top of the page, so that you will not have to return to the Quick Search homepage to modify the existing search or to start a new search. 

5. Use the Calendar button to adjust the date range within the 30-day window available for Quick Searches. Select the time zone in which you would like the search results to display.

6. Click the Set button to set the date range and time zone for your search.

7. To save your search, click on the Save Search button.

NOTE: When using a Quick Search without saving, there will be 30 days of historical data available on the Analyze page. 
After saving a search, there will be a rolling 12 months of data available on the Analyze page.


To Use the Guided Quick Search Feature:

1. Click on the Social Listening tab.
2. Just below the search bar of the Quick Search homepage, click on one of the suggestions to open the Guided Search Mode.  You can search by Brand, Issue, Campaign, Person, Topic, or social account.

3. Fill in the prompts to create a more effective search, without typing in Boolean syntax. As you begin filling in the prompts, Cision Social Listening will display the Boolean syntax string at the top of the form.



 (NOTE: If you prefer typing in the Boolean syntax yourself, you may enter it in the Quick Search box to create an Advanced Search, which is explained below)


4. You can enter relevant hashtags that you would like included in your results when searching for an issue or brand. You can select from a list of hashtags that are already being tracked as a targeted source.



5. If you type in a hashtag that is not in the list, you will be prompted to select an authenticated Facebook page to track with or add a new page.


6. When searching for a Brand, you can directly pull data from a social account or page that is being tracked as a targeted source, which will pull all mentions for that account or page into your dashboard. 

Click on the dropdown for the Social accounts section to select specific accounts for each account type you wish to track for this search.

Hover over the question mark icons to review definitions of each account type. 

Click on each social account type you would like to track for this search. 

Note: You cannot add a LinkedIn page to the search until it is saved. This is done after all other critieria for your search have been added. Click here to move down to the Save Search section of this document.

A. Twitter: Type in the handles you would like tracked. (You do not need to include the @ sign)

B. Owned Facebook Pages: Select from the Facebook pages you have previously authenticated.

C. If you have not already linked social accounts to track or would like to track a different Facebook page than those listed, click on the +ADD NEW PAGE link.

D. Click on the Connect with Facebook button to authenticate the page or copy the authentication link to send to the page's owner.


E. Non-Owned Facebook Pages: Select the non-owned Facebook pages that you have already  added to track as targeted sources.

NOTE: Available Non-Owned Public Facebook data will be included in Quick and Saved search results.


F. Click on the +ADD NEW PAGE link if the page you would like to track is not in the list.




G. Enter in the URL for the non-owned Facebook page you would like to add.
H. Owned Instagram Business Accounts: Select from the Instagram Business Accounts you have already authenticated.








J. Click on the Connect with Facebook button to authenticate the page or copy the authentication link to send to the page's owner.



7. After filling in all of the search terms you would like to Include and Exclude for this search, click on the Search button.

8. After clicking on the Search button, you will be led to the Quick Search tab in the Analyze page. (To learn more about how to analyze your Quick Search results, click here.)

9. On the Analyze Dashboards page, a search bar showing the current search is available for easy access at the top of the page, so that you will not have to return to the Quick Search homepage to modify the existing search or to start a new search.

10. To edit your search, click on the dropdown arrow to open the Guided Quick Search prompts.

11. You can change the Boolean Syntax in the Formula bar or make changes to any of the sections in the Guided Quick Search feature

12. Click on the Search button. NOTE: If you do not make changes, click on the Search button to continue using the Guided Search feature for future edits to your search.

13. If you click on the X to exit the Guided Search, you will see a prompt explaining that you will be taken to the Advanced Search, which requires you to edit the search using Boolean Syntax

14. To save your Quick Search, click on the Save Search button.

Adding LinkedIn Channels to your New Saved Search:

  • If you want to add LinkedIn Channels to the Guided Search, after saving, click on the LinkedIn icon to the left of the date range in the upper-right, and check the box(es) for the LinkedIn page(s) you would like to include in the saved search. 
  • Click the Save button to add the LinkedIn pages to the search.



To Use the Advanced Quick Search Feature:

1. Click on the Social Listening tab.

2. On the Quick Search homepage, begin typing in the Boolean Syntax for your search.

As you fill in your query, Cision Social Listening will include syntax highlighting, recognize errors and provide suggested operators and examples, to assist in your search creation. 

3. Click on the Advanced search help button for a list of Boolean operators you can use and examples.

4. After typing in your Boolean search, press the Enter key on your keyboard.

5. This will open up the Quick Search tab in the Analyze page. (To learn more about how to analyze your Quick Search results, click here.)

6. On the Analyze Dashboards page, a search bar showing the current search is available for easy access at the top of the page, so that you will not have to return to the Quick Search homepage to modify the existing search or to start a new search.
